bdb, thanks for them quotes, they like bullets of truth forme
a n d for introducing James Connolly -- (for me)
The Socialist question was not a religious question. It was a question to be settled in the mines and factories, not at the altar. The Socialist movement had nothing whatever to do with the next world. It was no concern of their organization whether there was a heaven or a hell, but, if there was a heaven hereafter, it was poor preparation to live in hell here.
James Connally

" Peace is not a thing of weakness. It calls for heroism and action day by day you must wrest it from the mouths of liars. You must stand alone against the multitude; for clamour is always on the side of many, and the liar has ever the first word. The meek must be strong."
- Stefan Zweig

a n d for introducing James Connolly -- (for me) No worries man, glad to be of service. I'm glad you are digging James Connolly, he was a great man and a great revolutionary, with his few hundred working working men and women he managed to strike a great blow at the heart of babylon (Dublin at the time was the second City of the British Empire) and his ideas on religion were wise and not as judgemental as many of his fellow Marxists, in fact he's getting a bit of a revival in light of what's happening in the movement with regards to Islam. There's a good selection of his writings available online here: http://www.marxists.org/archive/connolly/If you are interested in a religious/christain socialism you may want to check out Wilde's the Soul Of Man Under Socialism http://wilde.thefreelibrary.com/Soul-of-Man-under-Socialism I'm sure Wilde is a bit of a controversial charcter for many of you, being a Homosexual man and all, but he had great humanity and wisdom and is well worth reading. A few more quotes; I have a total irreverence for anything connected with society except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan The state is nothing but an instrument of opression of one class by another - no less so in a democratic republic than in a monarchy. Engles Each morning the day lies like a fresh shirt on our bed; this incomparably fine, incomparably tightly woven tissue of pure prediction fits us perfectly. The happiness of the next twenty-four hours depends on our ability, on waking, to pick it up. Walter Benjamin But whatever may be the circumstances of my death, I shall die with unshaken faith in the Communist future. This faith in man and in his future gives me even now such power of resistance as cannot be given by any religion . . . I can see the bright green strip of grass beneath the wall and the clear blue sky above the wall, and sunlight everywhere. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression, and violence, and enjoy it to the full. Leon Trotsky, just a few months before he died

" I may be able to speak the languages of men and even of angels, but if i have no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or clanging bell. I may have the gift of inspired preaching; I may have all the knowledge and understand all secrets; I may have all the faith needed to move mountains - but if i have no love, I am nothing. I may give away everything I have and even give up my body to be burned- but if I have no love, this does me no good" (I CORINTHIANS 13:1-3)

"Unlike Europe, China can't be intimidated. Europe backs down if the United States looks at it the wrong way. But China, they've been there for 3,000 years and are paying no attention to the barbarians and don't see any need to."

The minority, the ruling class at present, has the schools and press, usually the Church as well, under its thumb. This enables it to organize and sway the emotions of the masses, and make its tool of them. - Albert Einstein

"If we analyze history, we will see that all great wars, before they were started, were based on previously established concepts [of war]. But if we observe well, we will see that these concepts and strategies came to nothing, since a new type of war was ultimately waged. An example is the construction of the Maginot line by the French before the First World War, which, in reality proved to be completely useless against the invading forces. Aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines, and spy satellites will be useless in the next war. "

The trees are the Elders of the Earth. Go to the forest or to the mountains and find a young tree. Then find and old tree. Spend time with each. Sit by the young tree and listen to your thoughts. Then move to an old tree and listen to your thoughts again. Just being in the presence of an old tree, you will feel more calm. Your thoughts will contain wisdom and your answers will be deeper. Why is this so? These old trees know more, have heard more and are the Elders of the Earth. We must ensure these trees live so we can learn from them Haida Gwaii
