Blessed Ites, Hashani,
Seen Bred! One thing I look for thru this forum is the guidance and clarity to make the necessary changes.
The Ites post above leads I in that direction!
Unity! Stronger together! Sometimes the path can be daunting and seem lonely and alienating, but I believe there are many out in the world who are praying for the changes we are praying for.
The purpose is to come together in the Blessed state of Love and awareness!
To bring heaven to earth!
But no one can do it alone, so I and I reach out in an effort to bring about a mutuality, and co-create a global support network to help this planet birth Herself into her new unified awareness with as little pain and trauma as possible.
We can do this! with creativity and hearts and minds in synchronicity.
Like yesterday I started to sing - Your right, your right , your right! brother your right, we hafe fight, fight for our rights, natty dreadlock ina Zimbabwe, IYAH revolution ina Zimbabwe!
Sending our love and empowered thoughts collectively to Zimbabwe right now, in their times of great turmoil and hardship could help more than we know., and extending it globally, One Humanity!
Spiritual revolution!
For we are more Spirit than Matter!
Love up mi Idren

Greetings to you All.
I have a couple of questions to the black members of our One World Family.  I was at Euston station in London today and a black guy with locks came up to me ( I am white and have matted hair, but would not refer to them as dreadlocks because I believe that this is specific to the Rastafarian religion).  Anyway, the fella started trying to me saying that I only had my hair as a style and started to talk about how the locks for him are a sign of God within, not just a style and are part of his culture.  What I want to know is, how aware are black people, specifically rasta, that matted hair is found with holy men in a variety of cultures such as shaivite yogi sadhus in India.  Also skeletons of the nascar people in south america have been found in lotus posture in caves and they have matted hair.  I do wonder what pagan shamen in northern europe would have looked like.  I travelled a while in india and never got this negative reaction.
I originally matted my hair over 13 years ago as I stopped combing my hair, I suppose as a sign of renouncing some of the social values of mainstram culture (it was either locks, pink hair or no hair).  As I had stopped combing and cutting my hair, I got a friend to sort out locks as it was getting too out of control.
I was and do still like rasta music through listening to punk, mostly the clash etc.  As I've gone along I have found that my perception of this hair has evolved somewhat.  Ok in the beginning my reasons for having this hair were shallow, but has deepened somewhat over time.  Resulting in the intuitive perception from my sadhana ( spiritual practice, specifically yoga), that, for me the hair is roots, as there are 7 chakras linked by channels in the spiritual body, the physical counterpart being the nervous system.  If you look at these channels and centers they look like an upside down tree with the base at the crown and the branches running down the body and limbs.  6 of the centers starting from the sacrum up deal with evermore refined states of conciousness, and have a positive and negative polarity.  However the crown chakra is Unified ( God) conciousness.  Thus, the hair  means being rooted in God, the source.  And practically it is believed in Hinduism that matted hair helps to channel divine energy into the system.
I would not call myself rasta because I do not specifically follow the religion, but do in the sense of the thread running through all religion IE LOVE.
Can I ask my black brothers, does the above understanding jusify me having this hair? As it seemed to me that the guy today was, to me presenting rastafarianism as being somewhat reactive and spiritually immature, although I appreciate there could be a variety of view within rastafari on this.

Please help me to come to an understanding on this.

Jai Guru Dev ( Victory to the Big mind), Rich.

HEy everyone,
I think white people can be Rasta, because i an i are the same.  I am white and i don't claim Rasta because i simpley dont know enough about it, but from what i have read and studied is that i an i were all created equaly.  The path we take is one of hardship but it is people as a group who decide their fate. . .

Peace to ALL,

hey i think every man has the right to make a decision on what religion dem want to follow, regardless of race.  sure u can be rasta and be white! just as blackman can be christian!!

until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned: That until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race.

greetings all.  in the name of Jah Rastafari.  yeh this to me is a long talk.  no i don't think that the white man can  be a ras.  simply because its something we had to create for ourselves by ourselves, not only from the white man but also from some of our own people who were confused in life.  OUR IDENTITY.               the words to each his own are powerful words.  no disrespect intended to anyone

i find that belief false, in my general views.  All race is completely equal, same bones, same blood, same structure, same.  But through the essense of skin colour, skin colour i think. . .  makes a difference apparently to be either accepted into a livity/religion or actually not accepted by some.  I find this is utter sheer ignorance on my part.  Why should I and I be the same skin colour to be in divine presense and teachings of Jah?

Rastafari is said to bring UNITY. . . .  That very view you have Sinani is the complete opposite of unity.  Unity to black race is said?Huh? well how about unity to the whole wide world. . .  maybe that is much better than unity alligned to one race.

Im sorry if i have offended any with this post but these statements brought out by others anger me due to people recognise only the barrier. . . .  of skin, the outer shell that carrys the very soul is recognised by some before the soul itself.

I will not state my race, due to it doesnt particularly matter in any terms speaking.  Im a child of Jah as every one of you are, no matter if your black, asian, white, PINK, ANY colour you have. . .  I dont care, I celebrate rastafari bringing equality to the land.  Not to those who have a particular skin colour.

Thankyou,

Jah Bless

according to how I sight it, it is a bottom line issue which is as follows:
Most, if not every "white" person who has taken on certain Rastafari aspects, suffers from the pervasiveness of their privlage, to the extent that it has rendered their thought process ineffective in regard to sustaining meaningful centralized inertia towards the dismanteling and resounding negation of the system. Until these few whites come together, through vigorous networking of resources and practical ideas towards reparation of those who were victimized by the white legacy, then their religious affinity towards rasta, or any spiritual path will be in vain.

LET I START HERE AND NOW!!!!!!!!!

IDEAS-
Create petitions and appeals to confront local and national government.
Use the knowledge of Ethiopian Christian history and charity AND the insult to the Good Name of God that the exposed hypocracy of racism displays. Appeal to white, well-to-do Christians for support. Exploit their well founded fears about their fatal future as their children become consumed in the fallout of racial misanthropy.
create trust funds/ treasuries which can receive and distribute these resources appropriately.
...to name a few

related article excerpt:
...The slavery south was the fourth largest economy in the world, bigger than any European nation except England.  White Americans who claim no ties to slavery should consider Robert Fogel.  In his 1989 book, Without Consent or Contract, he wrote that cotton “was the essential raw material for hundreds and thousands of factory hands in the north and Europe.  It provided employment for several million other workers in transportation, in handicrafts, and in…trade.”
Most of the millions of workers were white.  Not to mention the northern bankers, insurers and shippers who dominated the cotton’s export.  Slaves came to constitute 15% of private assets in the U.S. economy, according to The Wealth of Races.  The total benefits of slavery to the national economy between 1790 and 1850 were three times that of immigrant labor.
The final value of slave labor is almost incalculable.  The face value of American slaves in 1860, 1983 dollars, was $17 billion.  Assuming that the money that slaves produced for others from 1790 to 1860 grew in the economy, economists, using conservative compound-interest rates, calculate that the value of such income by 1983 was $1.4 trillion to $4.7 trillion.
After emancipation, the income of black people jumped to about 60% of white Americans from 22%.  But racism kept African Americans from closing the gap in pay.  Government-approved housing segregation, property redlining, and job discrimination that cost African Americans at least $1.6 trillion in lost wages from 1929 to 1969 ensured that African American homeowners enjoyed far less wealth accumulation in the 20th century than white Americans.
The World War II generation will be passing on $8 trillion to their children.  The average white baby boomer stands to inherit $65,000, according to researchers for the federal Reserve Board.  The average African American baby boomer will inherit only $8,000.
Civil war enough? At wars end the Confederacy’s white land owners got there land back, while African Americans were given virtually nothing, forcing them into serfdom and sharecropping...

WE MUSN’T keep justice as a pet, as a novel idea as contained in some etheric bubble of self- appeasment( which, as so called white people , would never have to be challenged or have a flame put close to it because for no lack of resource, life to them is steady/great).  All of the inequalities which exist weigh heavily in our favor, so they really can afford to just shelve the whole idea of justice!

The Orwellian nation that big brother wants us to be is a bunch of cool drones who sing and dance watch the history channel  and cry and then celebrate freedom and life while he (big brother), goes out and expands it’s empire forcibly to the entire planet -   leaving  misery and death wherever he goes -  and we just say “DUUUUDE” See, we create that droneness in ourselves, set ourselves up when we cheapen ourselves and our lives through acting out life from a “kid in a toy store”  point of view;  always playing fool-heartedly because you are intoxicated by the sensual world which you portray for yourself. Because you spend money, you are called a consumer and as such go along even in the system’s strained legitimacy which lingers in the back of your mind, but, so long as your own needs and comforts are met, exsistence is justified. How pathetic and disconcerting it is to always see whites, or anybody,  putting themselves on with comic relief in the face of so much damage which our ancestors have caused;  many whites I see continually display the regurgitated churlish arrogance of their forefathers to the impatient dismay of others who feel the pain

THE GREAT EMPEROR HAILE SELLASSIE THE FIRST, WHO STOOD AT THE PLATFORM OF THE WORLD POWERS TO PUSH FOR UNIVERSAL SOLIDARITY AND JUSTICE UNDER THE CODES OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND MORALITY IS THE JUDGE OF THE WORLD!  I MAN AM NOT IN THE LEAST BIT ASHAMED OF THE SPIRIT OF JUDGEMENT, WHICH SEEKS JUSTICE, FOR JUDGEMENT IS PASSED IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE HUMBLE OF JAH AND TO SAVE JAH CHILDREN FROM THE WICKED. LET IT PENETRATE DEM MINDS
WOE TO THE FILTHY WHO REFUSE THE CLEANNESS OF WHAT IS GOOD.

I say that a neglect of these facts is why one may hear different reasoning than on other forums.  A person of non Afreecan heritage must know their raspective place within the body of Rastafari.  A non-Afreecan especially one of European descent must use privilege to do the works of the King.  In this trod because of white privilege certain works & positions can be accomplished easier and with less resistance from babylon when a caucasian does them.  I say this from experience as I Idren who is Italian is able to access certain demographics because of his skin without the usual spirit of fear that a black dark skinned Natty with full precepts encounters on a daily basis.
In regard to the topic of the thread, it is still as simple as "knowing oneself."

Blessed be Bredren Negus,
While I support the Militancy the I displays and the movement the I intents for we ABSOLUTELY. I feel that the I has certain "whitewashed" or even "Blackwashed" coloured glasses when it comes to view people of caucausian/euro descent, and so must clear up some of these "racial" Rasta ideas. It is potentially harmful and ailienating to assume that "white Rasta" live a life of priveliege denied non-white Rastas, I feel more disadvantaged as a pale skin within the Rasta movement and have lived as poverty striken as anyone, including severe malutrition, and watching I children skinny and half-starved, even to this day, we have slept like Bob says....cold ground was my bed last night and rock my pillow.....my Kingman and I......for this is what Jah ask of we.......It is ironic, but our poor state may be changing soon as a new Ras friend....who is Arab Jew lebenese by descent.(quite a lot browner than I kingman ,who is 1/4 native American)....this man incidently lived homeless and hungry for 12 yrs+... but he has become a rich man, guided by Jah, he practicaly started the organic food industry in Tasmania due to desire to feed his children Ital....he is willing to give we a break....coz we are hungry, cold and sick, and have been living true to Jah and he is the first one who cares AND has the means to help we! He will sell we some organic food at cost price so we can start our own organic food business, (and pay when we make the money). Also, here is some really good news, he is getting us to build a website livicated to distributing tons of food, donated by the growers, to the starving people of the world, Rastas here can help! We need more contacts in Africa so that this food goes to the people in most need!
I used to think like you Bredda, that I skin gave I advantage, but in my circles it makes no difference, in fact due to I profession, I feel I would be better off if I were dark... but like I Bredda Deecey from JA say...same sufferation!
I used to think that the "privileged whites" would listen to we and support we as we are the same colour, but we are too Rasta for dem, so culturally we are "too Black" it seems.
We live in a house, a quite nice house, but it is a house for disadvantaged people, yes many of them black, supported by a community housing company, a wonderful break for we after living in likkle shacks in the bush and living in vehciles for years. we have no car now, but luckily live in a village.
This model of Housing people is a great Idea, it is a community thing, subsidized by the government, I'm sure it could be set up by the "privileged", whatever colour they are, in other places.
Maybe we could get them online and I could show you.....
Housing is such a crucial issue!
Our poverty certainly shaped by our housing opportunities, but still, we are cold...and undernourished...soon come the change we have been praying for!
Anyone who would like to help us, and we have 7 children too, can check out what we are doing for the planet and for Rasta on our website and maybe even dl a tune or two, please......!!!!
noone has even dl anything yet, but we have only been able to sell tunes for a short while...so if you want to help Rasta, our only crime is being the wrong colour...please try to overlook the skin thing, there is no difference between us and any coloured Ras!!!!!

Some say that whites cannot be rasta.   In the case ini must ask iself what happens to a white man when he believes that the rasta path is the only path to jah.   If he is not allowed to be rasta then he can never attain the closeness to Jah that blacks can.   Surly jah does not see skin color?

    Blessings to all I!!!

I am white.  My grandfather on my mother's side was Italian; my grandmother on the same side was Polish.  They were farmers in West Virginia, U. S. A.  The Ku Klux Klan attempted to tar and feather my grandfather because they  considered the marriage between my grandparents to be inter-racial.  My grandfather managed to fight them off.  Subsequently, a contract for his death, and the death of all their progeny was ordered (still in effect to this day), resulting in a change of my mother's family name and a scattering of them throughout the U. S. A.  I, a white man, know about racial persecution.

    Bob Marley was half white.

We all, as a species, come out of Africa.  We are ALL, African, and I see Rasta as a call back to that primordial grace that was first sparked in Zion.

In rejecting technology, where do I-n-I stop? Stone tools are a form of technology; rolling spliffs to smoke ganja is a form of technology; using a flint and steel to create a spark for fire is technology; using this board is using technology; the amplifiers and instruments that Brother Bob Marley used to make and share his Jah-inspired music were forms of technology; the plow is a form of technology. The problem is not technology - the problem is intention.  When technology is used for unwholesome purposes that are contrary to God and Nature which lead to enslavement and loss of our humanity, THAT is the problem.  Nothing in Jah's Universe can be inherently evil - people make evil choices.
