Well The Church that Selassie I belongs to burn the herb (mixed with others) in their cistrens (hope that is the right word) all the time. I have this information from  Ethiopians who belong to that same Church = Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The priests wave it to and fro. Even if H.I.M. did not smoke it directly....seen. H.I.M. used to pray in those Churches.

Ones also have to realise that Ras use of ganja is more of a product of Jamaican culture than anything that was happening in Ethiopia.  I hate to shatter your illusions but Burning Spears advice in Bro. Simeon Tafari's post is correct.  Use the herb by all means, but don't romanticize it.

I would suppose, from reading thism that it is alike Iss-us. For he did not smoke herb either, just an unnecssiary action. For his purpose was not this.

HIM spiritual intellect, or spirit itself was always high. Always close to the most high. We cyan smoketh the herb forIVA, and all day long you see, and never be as high as His Majesty was. He is 1000 times higher than we can even concieve. The herb is a sacrament and is selfless act though to realize oneness with the most high.

Even if HIM did not smoke Herb, it is likely that He was treated with Herb when he was Ill, and we know from Historical accounts of His life that he did experience illness. Herb has been used medicinally in Africa for......well eva since!

From Ini experience, the Eth. Tewehado Church burns rock incense for the purification of the structure during certain liturgies.  Specifically frank & myrrh, as it was only the Rastafari who even brought the Ilaful herb anywhere near the church as most Ethiopians still viewed it as taboo.

Jah is The Most High God.

Whether He smoked marijuana or not, I don't know.

But I do know that He would never need to smoke it, because as God, He Created marijuana, so all of it's positive characteristics existed in Him already.
