what are rastas views on swearing.  I would think it would be against using these words because they are generraly degrading or bring down the overall feel of where you are and rastas change the way they speak to be more uplifting.  However listening to some Damian Marley or Sizzla there is sometimes swearing.  I don't really think there is anything WRONG with swearing they're just words but I don't normally do it because of the feeling it gives off.

What is everyones opinion on this?

I dont see it as good or bad. A word is a word.  But how it is used can affect ya negatively.  Like I can say...

"Man this is some good fucking toast!"

and its fine..
or i can say

"You are a fucking moron!"

And it make someone feel bad, see?  I guess everyone has a different oppinion on it, but theres mine Shocked

Greetings all and Blessings
Personally InI think that swearing is unecessary. I try not to swear as much as possible. Sometimes the odd word slips out from force of habit from my younger years. But we really dont need these words to communicate effectively. You are right brethren when you say 'they are just words' but the effect they have on other people in society is a negative 1. Say a mother is trying to bring her child up to not swear and he hears you and thinks its ok. Or perhaps an old lady frail hears you and it really upsets her. Swearing is often quite aggressive too which is not good for positive feelings. Blastphamy is a form of swearing to which is forbidden by Jah and again unecessary. IMO swear words are ugly and negative and I like to keep my conversations as beautiful and positive as poss. So thats why I try not to swear I guess its a personal thing and what you belive is right.

I n I try to keep my speech clean and appropriate for most age groups. It's not really offending to I, however it does tend to kill the mood for I when people begin doing it. I n I will ask some people to clean up their language if every other word is the 'F word'. A lot of it depends on how it is said, when, and where. I opinion on its morality is similar to SOTRH's. Peace.

I swear...often. =D

Swear words don't matter to me, if someone can't take my language or anyone else's for that matter too bad for them. Honestly, why would someone let petty words effect them that much? Even if words were racist, sexist, ageist, classist, etc, they're just words and you shouldn't let them effect you. If you do, then you're letting them win, so don't be a pussy about words.

Greetings and Blessings.  Good points from everyone here,  I man have struggled with anger for many years, and swearing has been a problem.  Its only since finding Jah, I am alot more conscious about it.  Swearing is as Evan says, just words, they shouldnt effect I an I.  However, what should be and is, is different.  So to I an I must be careful in what context these words are used, in order not to upset or offend others.  On the flip-side if someone is swearing profusely, I an I cannot judge, I an I cannot tell anyone to clean up their speech, I an I can only ask.  All I think there is to say is watch I an I own use of swearing, and not others.  Remember that to swear is to allow anger to creep in, Bun this out with Fiyah.  Anger is the destruction of mankind.  Blessings and Onelove.  Praise Jah

bredda Hummble_Yet_Strong; its good to hear that u in the process of displine to control ya Anger... One thing Iman want to add up for ur latter consideration is: anger can be both; good or bad. And it all depends on ya conscious awareness at a given moment. If ya feel angry be total with it, yet be full conscious of the force it rushes out. Know that it may cut like a knife or razor... Leaving behind a wound in u and the other altogether. Bottomline is, anger is a surge of abrupt emotions which may be crucial for discharging tension of somekind in the inner psyche of wo/man. It is always better to channel the energies properly but not blocking them or ground them... For they may go underground and erupt as a disease or any psychosomatic disorder... Abrupt surge of emotions must be handled creatively, so anger is the same phenomena that requires a sharp upturn or reaction... Nature did not allow anger to exist for nothing... Just purify ur ways and see if that anger will come out in a self destructive way. Anger in needed for survival, an it may mean a sharp upturn or an immediate change; let it be...

On the other hand, swearing is not a distant phenomenon from channelling of strong emotions... I an I must careful upon how we use i an i strong impulses of emotions to encode a certain situational meaning. Emotions magnitize our reflective reality quick... And if I an I misuse the flow/outburst of it, we agoh face a bitter outcome of our own dark/ignorant side...

Words ascociating with strong emotions of love/hate may immediately swing our vibrational quality... But only if the words still corresponds to the negative imprint in the inner psyche of the one who uses it. If the inner psyche is not negative enough, same words can be used creatively and elevate our senses with humor... Something which automaticly swing into positivity of non attachment to the debris of negative implication...

Nevertheless, some words we use tend qualify into the polarization of the like and a dislike... Attraction/Bond and Repulsion/Rejection; Now that falls into the category of maya... Creating ur own living reality according to the pattern of thinking and believing. A kind of self fulfilling prophecy. Now when it comes into the supreme realisation; one must seize the game of dividing/judging the surrounding reality... coz when one identify with the supreme consciousness: All is one energy, springing from one source of all. Then it is needless to swear upon anything in the sense that is standing against something; for that will come and hit back in one way or the other; fulfilling the law of attraction/provocation...

In peace,

JAH Love

Ephesians 4:29-Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Ephesians 5:4-Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

James 1:19-My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry

I have always had similar beliefs on this as the words all have legitimate meaning it just depends on the context it is used in.
