For I&I as a singer, I get Iman I-nspiration when I'm showering at night.
The melody comes first, then the chorus and at last the verses. When I have the lyrics in my head, I read it down and maybe record a little mp3 file with the lyrics and melody for remembering.
I have written many songs - Ive been a musician on a semi-professional level since the age of 11.       Understood (yes, under) Adonai I JAH at age 13.

Good luck with the Inspiration - it is all about feeling JAH, then it comes by itself.
Music is a very noble way to praise Him, King David was a musician an so on.
