Greetings in the name of the most High
ever living, ever loving, Jah Rastafari

Ive been arguing with others and Myself about amputation and mutilation to the body.  They have come up with some questions that InI cant seem to answer..

Started talking about bob marley, and his refusal to cut off his toe to save his life.  Body must be kept whole.

What about surgery?  Appendectomy?  Wisdom teeth removal?

I dont think I would amputate a limb off of my body.  What about the removal of wisdom teeth?  they would cause suffering upon conflict with other teeth in ones mouth..

This all may sound ridiculous, but I couldnt come upon an answer on my own.

Bless family

Hmmmm...Tricky one.
I guess some people don't have any choice whether their limbs are amputated. Sometimes they just can't be reattached. Given the choice? Well that depends on whether the individual wants to live or die. It would be one of those situations where you have to weigh up whats important to you. I think it would have to be a personalised choice. Given the choice i wouldn't do it.
Wisdom teeth? Let me tell ya bout those irritants! I have had mine pulled as they caused infection within my jaw. I have kept them in a safe place and they will go with me when this part of the living journey comes to an end. Might not be quite the same as still having them in my mouth but they still go with me in the end. By the way all these little things are outlined in my will and my children know where everything is.
Good luck with the reasoning. It's not really the easiest thing to answer as everyone has their own convictions.

Ey bredren, very good question and one which has conflicted with InI for sometime also. I'm going to try to expand on what Wahine said with I own opinions.

Life is our most important possession and the only possession which truly belongs to us alone, weighing up against a leg, an arm or in Bob Marleys case a toe life comes out on top always. Marley chose at first to keep his toe because he faced the very same question were reasoning upon but if the I reads into the subject the I weill discover that Marley actually did come to a conclusion and decided on having surgery but it was too late and the cancer had spread. He must have realised that almighty Jah loevs us beyond measure and would surely rather us come damaged than much before our time on earth.

Just keep meditation on the subject brother, find truth!

Selassie I guide.

Matthew 5:30 is of some relevance, no? The context is a bit strange but this is what is being said

Quote
"And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."
