Hi guys, I'm new to the board and I really feel nervous about posting this because I really don't know where to start or how to explain the feelings I have, plus this is very personal to me and I'm doing my best not to get swayed by emotions. . . . .  but hey what the heck. . . nothing ventured, nothing gained. . right!

So here goes, I'm gonna be as honest as I can because I really want to be sure that what I'm feeling is the real deal or if it's just good intention. . . . .

Lemme give you some background info on myself, I've been feeling as though I'm going through a transitional period in my life and the changes in me I just cannot explain but I'm not fighting them, I'm getting a powerful pull to be the person that I really am regardless of what society thinks also to live as natural and compassionately as possible and I know that a lot has to do with my fruitarian lifestyle (Only eat fruits) but I'm also getting a powerful pull to connect with nature/my culture/heritage even more than usual and all of a sudden I don't want to shave my hair after ten or so years of shaving, I started feeling a great loss when ever I did, it took me a while to make sense of these feelings but as a Fruitarian I'm pretty good at following my instincts so I know these are not to be ignored, it occured to me that we have hair for a reason, so I've decided to grow locs and just celebrate myself and black characteristics and last but not least celebrate what I've been giving by mother nature, I say Mother Nature for want of a better word, I've ALWAYS had a soft spot for Rasta philosophy and it's been cropping up a lot recently in my thoughts and in life, now I'm wanting to explre this more and the more I look into it the more it resonates with me, I get that deep warm, peaceful "home" feeling when I think about it, especially now, my only thing is that I don't believe in God as mainstream society knows it, I'm very open to spiritual things but I've done the religion/christianality thing before and it just didn't make sense, I found myself forcing myself to believe in something that I really didn't believe in, least of all putting so much faith into something that you cannot/may never see. . . . with the rasta philosophy everything resonates with me but (NO OFFENSE INTENDED HERE) I just don't believe that Haile Selassie I is a God, I can get with the idea of him being a decendant of David but an invisable spirit in the sky type God, I just cannot get my head around anybody being a God, I don't believe in worshipping humans either, although, I'm all for mentors/guru's, I believe that everybody should look within themselves and be there own "guide" and look after their own "temple" accordingly, now does this mean that I could never be a Rasta???

Now I've checked out the rest of the forum and I've probably missed bits but what I did get kinda conflicted the more I looked at, so ANY guidence here would be much appreciated!!!!

Thanks

Much love!

Ites Idren! First of all, i would like to welcome you to the forum! Always good to see a new member stepping into the warmth!
Your say your abit confused as you dont think Haile Selassie I or anyone can be God allmighty, and your wondering can you still be Rasta? Well man, there are thousands of Rastas that believe that Selassie I was a divine king, a good, guiding king, but not God. Personally i see Selassie I as a divine and blessed king... Who was blessed by JAH and lead us to Jeshua and JAH. But InI dont see him as no God, no. Do you know about Rasta houses? There are different houses, but the most known ones i would say is 12 tribes, Nyahbinghi and Bobo Shanti. 12 tribes represents the 12 sons of Jakob, in the bible. And they have different views on Selassie I, thats why they are in different houses, because they have different views on things, seen? So 12 tribes say Selassie I was a divine king but not God. Bobo Shanti and Nyahbinghi see Selassie I as God allmighty in human flesh. The point is, you can be Rasta whether you share or dont share the same views as the rest of the Rastas you know... Because for you, its your views and oppinion that is most important isnt it? If you share someones view without believing in it, its not your view! You can be Rasta even if you eat flesh, even if you dont wear dreadlocks, even if you dont smoke di herb! Even if you dont believe Selassie was God allmighty. For example, why am i a vegetarian? Is it for myself or for God? I dont eat flesh because i see no use in eating another creatures carcass. We dont need to eat other living creatures to stay alive! And aswell im a vegetarian because the bible tells me to be, but in other parts it tells us to eat meat to... So its all about your personal interpretation! Before you ask someone of their oppinion on something, always say to yourself "whats my oppinion on this?". There will be people saying to you "you are not rasta if you do or not do that", but who are they to judge? Maybe your not Rasta for them, but you certainly is Rasta for JAH. Keep your head up, so the sunlight can hit it! Hope i gave you some insight on the matter and some matters around this! JAH love, blessings & guidance! RASTAFARI

Hey man. . . to tell you the truth that explanation there was so on point for me, it helped alot. . . . yes I can see if someone is a great person/leader and giving credit where credit is due, I've no trouble accepting that at all, before I posted here I went through the boards and saw that this place can be extremely supportive and I also saw that some people can be pretty narrow minded considering what they stand for. . . so I was pretty nervous about posting my story because I don't want to offend anybody that is not of like mind but I kinda wanted someone to see my story and give me some insight because I was thinking too much. . . . . you mention my opinion well, my opinion is that labels don't make you who you are, you are already who you are, sometimes you just need to dig a little deeper to find yourself and it feels like I've been living the rasta way, all my life without attaching the label to myself maybe because of fear of being who I really am, now thanks to your advice I'm going to be taking the the first steps learning more and more about Rastafari. . . . . and I feel like my wheels have stopped spinning and I've got something to grip at last.

I saw the post about the sects and saw the 12 tribes thing and I was born in march and that lined up with Benjamin, I don't even know what that means, maybe somebody can help me out with that, if you or somebody else can point me in the direction where there's people/rastas or a house that shares the same views as me so I can make a start researching, etc, I'd really appreciate it.

Yess Man. . . my head will stay up!!!

Thank you so much. . . . Soldier of Jah

Good that i were able to help you!! Makes me happy! You said your afraid of offending people yes? When you explain your thoughts, views and beliefs, that should offend noone. Because its your thoughts and they need to respect it, right? Comments against can be set indeed, but they should not get offended because then they wont be able to reason normally, they will just try to put their thoughts into your mind and that will lead to that your very confused. And at Rasta Nicks i've seen a few who judges people and try to 'convince' someone that their thought is right. But mainly at this forum i've only seen love, good vibes and guidance! That is what i have got from here, and thats why i love this forum so much! Just be yourself and stick to your original thoughts! Ofcourse you can change your view on something when you got a very good explanation, that i have done many times on different points. But if we offended eachother when we say what we think, then we wouldnt have this caring and loving Rasta nicks forum, seen? About 12 tribes, as you said you were Benjamin, im Asher. I dont really know much about the different tribes in 12 tribes but for me its somewhere i feel i belong to. Just as a family, but ofcourse every woman and man, girl and boy here, are my family! There's some special things for each tribe. Im Asher, my color is gray, my body part is thigh... and so on. But thats not very important, because all i need is to be a Rasta, trodding the path of my life. If im Asher or not, doesnt mean the world to me. Just keep trodding brother! And we shall talk much much more on the forum! Keep movin' forward! JAH love, blessings and guidance! RASTAFARI

Good to hear!! a very very warm welcome to Rasta nicks brother!
You will see that this will become your second home yes, as it did for me! Here i can find love, guidance and peace always. If this forum would be shut down, i would become very very sad and confused because i would have noone to reason to, except the caring and good friends ive gotten from this forum! So if i wouldnt have found this forum, i wouldnt have been at the stage i am now! Im so thankful to this forum, and thats why i try to keep the spirit up, helping new ones into the family and such! One love bredda!
Blessings
