Greetings,

I have noticed in alot of reggae music has reference to Psalm 23, is there some kind of significance about it.

Just wondering.

Bless up

Peace

Psalm 23 is probably the single most quoted psalm in every denomination.

My son is wondering if the reference is "Psalm 23" or if the reference is the actual words of the psalm?

The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul, He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness, for His name's sake.

And more.

We in my family like Psalm 23 because it is short enough for even small children to memorize, and it is a comforting, loving, restorative, very positive- NO vengeance mentioned Psalm.

Does that help?

God bless, and keep reading the Word.

A person can never go wrong contemplating the Words of God.

Psalm 23 was written by David in his time of greatest need, or so I've been told.

Just keep in mind that "want" means to have lack of not to desire... as in "That child wants a good bath" not "I want candy."

I have never wanted for anything since turning my life over to God.

The trick is, and it may be a place to apply a little Buddhism or in my case The Tao, to curb your DESIRES so that you can truly see not that the Lord will provide but that He already IS PROVIDING.

Again, God bless.

Fabulous place to go with the heart and mind.

I was "wanting" that Psalm!

Thank-you.

Greetings,

thanks for the response bro,

I agree with it being the most quoted, I have been around it all the time, my Grandparents are both christian, and I seem to remember it from them.

I have been reading it and tryin (failing Tongue) to remember it. I love this Psalm

A cool thing about this Psalm is David himself was a sheperd, he knew all about it and he said: the lord is my sheperd.  A good sheperd protects his sheep from danger such as wolves and David said "though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. " If a sheperd protects sheep from danger how much more can God protect us.  Jesus said: "I am the good sheperd.  I give my life for my sheep. "

It's talking about America?? Did America as we know it today even exist when this was put to paper?

Its talking about when your vacuuming and your vacuum bag is full to overload and you've got no vacuum bags left and there's still loads of carpet left to clean and your mother in law is calling over and you just know she's gonna be on your case for the stink o' de place -LOL.......you get the idea!!

Maybe this interpretation thing can go abit to far sometimes...

Love up
keep smiling

yes it is talking about america, its bible prophecy,

just like in deuteronomy 28 vs 15 onwards its talks about the curses what wud be heaped upon israel for their disobediance to the most high (YAHAWAH) forever, that they wud be taken into Egypt (slavery, U. S. A) again with SHIPS, WITH YOKES OF IRON AROUND THEIR NECK, their children being taken away from them, being removed into all kingdoms of the earth to serve their enemies, being mocked with scornfull byword names (nigger, coon etc)

that didnt happen back then but it happend to us as prophecy said it wud.  WE AREB THE TRUE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL whoes forfarther went into slavery in ships to this western hemisphere,
hope this helped you.  BLESS

I could be mistaken (no, seriously, I could Wink )
but I think David wrote it when he was hiding from Saul when Saul was trying to kill him.

He felt like the world was against him and his only refuge was God.

I think this is one of the psalms from that time.

He is talking about how no matter how bad things get he still had Yah to take care of him.

I have never heard it interpreted as prophesy before.
I don't think the psalms are prophesy.

Bless up.

Exactly, leanora. Exactly.

"The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want."

"Want" means lack for anything, not desire, in this case.

"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."

Bless up!

The Psalm is give much praise to the Most High it it acknowledge all power comes from the Most High regardless the illusions ... "the shadow/valley of death" is a phrase used throughout scripture it is reference to this sinful world ... the end of sin is death according to scripture so to walk in the valley of death is to walk amongst sinful people ... yet we have no fear of these devils in our mist we see them as who they are and move accordingly ... the staff and rod ... represent knowledge and discipline to the I a staff helps one stand up right a rod is used for beating when Jah give one a beating take heed for its much lesson in a beating let them be a comfort for they help one gain the wisdom necessary to allow that cup to overflow

David didn't write the 23rd psalm It was written by an Egyptian and transposed by the people of the book
