Hello Idren, I was wandering what everyones opinion on vitamin B12 is.  I learned that you cant get it from any natural source, and only form animal products.  So What does anyone think the best way to get it is? I am not a fan of vitamin supplements, but if that the best way to get it I guess I can give in  Grin
Also I was thinking, if humans cannot produce their own form of B12, then how did nature intend us to get it?

Just wanted to have some opinions.

Blessings and thanks

As a science stoodent, this sparked my interest.

It turns out that "The only reliable vegan sources of B12 are foods fortified with B12 (including some soy products and some breakfast cereals), and B12 supplements. " - Wikipedia

I can't believe that there really aren't any decent natural sources of B12 out there.

Gotta stick to the multivitamins

B12 is a microorganism that lives in soil
cows eat it with the grass and legumes they consume
tempeh that is not produced in a too sterile environment is said to contain amounts of B12
as do mushrooms that havent been too steralised or washed
another source is yeast
yeast flakes are delicious and are a viable valid vegetarian source of B12
as are other yeast products
continue to research, things are rarely as they first appear
there may be sources of B12 in freshly grown and picked vegetables, grown organically in your garden
as I have said it is a micro organism and is vital in converting food to energy, regulating nerves and neural system (body/mind/brain), without it, our brain starts to dissolve, leading to psychosis and eventually death, and we cannot convert food to energy effectively
I know this intimately as I have suffered from severe B12 deficiency and anemia (iron deficiency)
it is a wild and harrowing ride to oblivion and back again
now I get it into me any way I can, supplemented foods and even animal products (shock horror)
I am an aspiring Italist NOT a strict vegetarian anymore although I prefer vegetable based nutrition MOST of the time, but NOT at the expensive of my energy, health and most of all sanity
Blessed perfect Love

Also a sidenote is that b12 defiancy is a becoming a general problem for the entire population, not just vegans....

nya; no need to consume animals, as stated there are botth b12 infused products and vitamins you can take....
