Who I Am: My name is Tyler. I live in WA state USA with my wife and daughter of 8 months (
www.apeacefulpride.com). I have been on and off this forum (mostly observing) for a while now (over a year atleast). I am not a Rasta... I am a dreadlocks and I do believe in an impersonal Almighty Being. Anyways...
I was suprised by the seemingly-majority negative view on psychoactive mushrooms that I saw in the Livity Section. I understand Rastas to believe the ganja plant was God given. I also understand Rastas to believe in ganja's powerful guidance and medicinal properties. And still I understand Rastas use scripture to defend ganja's significance and righteousness in life.
If you look at the scripture that backs up use of ganja, you will find it very vague in reference to "the green herb". Consider these facts from Exodus then (I recommend reading the whole Chapter 16...
Ex. 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold,
I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Ex. 16:13 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp:
and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
16:14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness
there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
16:15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another,
It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them,
This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.If you read the entirety of Exodus 16 you will find that it's describing manna, which is, the bread of life. You will also find other facts about manna... it was to be saved in pots for future generations, it tasted like wafers made with honey, and it stopped being consumed by Israel once they reached the airid borders of Canaan.
These facts are true of mushrooms:
*Mushrooms can be preserved (and preserve the pscilocybin) when encased in honey.
*Mushrooms fruit after a day or night of rain ("I will rain bread from heaven").
*Mushrooms require a fair amount of humidity ("and in the morning the dew lay around the host" )
*Mushrooms appear rather quickly, seemingly pop-up overnight ("And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness").
*We all know their shape ("there lay a small round thing")
*Moses saw the burning bush image
*Moses was a livestock herder
*Psilocybe conatainging mushrooms grow in this area on livestock manure (lots of them)!
Somethings to think about... perhaps this negativity about mushrooms is based not off reasoning but off of predetermined notions of what can be spiritual and All-unifying.
