Someone I know and have disliked previously has taken up smoking cannabis.  Within 2 weeks of smoking cannabis he feels the need to call himself a "Rasta. " When asking him to explain himself to see if he knew what he was talking about he replied that Rasta means a group/cult of Jamaicans who smoke a bunch of cannabis, and wear Red, Yellow and Green.  I don't know whether to express anger against this as it is discriminating in a way or just to leave him alone. . .

What would you do?

Any help is appreciated  Grin

Greetings Bredren,
What do we do with any one that fronts after just scratching the surface ?.  Usually, and rightly so, there is ignorance.  To seek something with an open heart and humility is the path upon which wisdom may be found.  To know that there is something deeper and see how we are affected by it, How it resonates with who we are at the core of our being.
In life we may see the complete disconnectedness many face.  We are each given the oppertunity to be what we are to be.  Some follow, others lead.  We learn from those that are around us and Nature, we find our way in this mixture.
I have often felt that to ignore something does NOT make it go away. That is the childs way.   I have also found that ignorance is only addressed with compassion and if the willingness is not there to elevate to a different possible reality, it will come in its own time (if at all) but we have humbly done our part to share what we know.
It is often difficult for a parent to allow this space, but is also crucial for the growth of our children and self Identity.  Sometimes it is a pleasent surprise how very grateful ones can be if the differing point of view is brought and knowledge is gained, but I have found it is not what we say, but HOW we say it that gets us in trouble.
Adolecence is a completely different stage that is not only filled with hormonal imbalance, but also  greatly influenced by pride.  In this case, the impenetrabal wall of "self" is the obstical.

What is it the I dis~like ?, the ease at which ones assume something superficially?  all the while making it seem like these things we do are easy?, rest assured they are not.  Nothing worth getting is easy.  It is our lifes challenge to become what we know we must be.  Only through the hard work we feel our bodies and mind relax in knowing we have done what we had to do.  And so, rest easy Bredren~~~Feel no way.  show him that the waters run deep, it will be their choice to sink or swim.

  Peace be the way.

WHAT A FOOL, this person you speak of. to turn the other cheek and leave him alone to his own ignorance would be sensible. but on the other hand he is confused or just ignorant, he is just looking at the stereotypical view of rasta which so many people today think. He needs to learn the truth of rasta, so to approach him with anger may be necessary, so he knows he is wrong. teach him what rastafari is about so that he can overstand and correct him self. than see if he still feels the same way, weather he wanted to smoke ganja or starts to embrace the deeper meaning of Rastafari.

Blessing, and much respect,

enlighten him. the fact you do not take this as an opportunity to inform is quite disheartening.

I did inform him but apparently what I say is wrong, and his theory is right.
