Greetings in the name of His Imperial Majesty Haile Sellassie First, the true and living God and in the name of his Son Jesus Christ Primus St Croix.
There are many reasons for a beginner to feel or become overwhelmed, in their quest to understand the Rastafarian Idealogy and Doctrine. There are many division of thoughts within the Rastafarian Community; however, the central figure of our Faith is the belief that Emperor Haile Selassie I is God. Historically, and also actively, Haile Sellassie wears the title of God Almighty, as well as his teachings and works testifies to the claim.
We would, therefore, encourage that you begin your journey of Rastafarianism, by first researching the life and character of the source himself King Rastafari Haile Sellassie I, while simultaneously reading and studying the Bible. Also, be vigilant and thirsty for knowledge, both Spiritual and secular, for in so doing you inevitably realize the need for a Prime mover, a Creator who is just.
Here are some scriptures, relating to Haile Sellassie I: Psalm 24 Matthew 5:1-8, Job 19:23-27, I Timothy 3:16, Isaiah 9:6, Psalm 87, Psalm 48, Ezekiel 38:23, Psalm 98:1-3, Romans 1:19-23 Acts 17:22-29 Jeremiah 10:1-10
On November 2, 1930 Negus Tafari, was crowned King of Kings of Ethiopia and Lord of Lords, Light of the World, Conquering Lion of Judah, Elect of God, Power of the Trinity and many other titles. During his reign and leadership in the proceeding years, He had receive many awards and honor from many nations around the world, some of these included: Doctor of Laws, Doctor of Philosophies, and Civil Justice, doctor of Letters, etc. From the Eastern Orthodox Church He was crowned with the Honor "Defender of the Faith. His Leadership and contribution earned him the honor "Conscience of the world. Zachariah 14:9 saids "The LORD shall be King over all the earth and in that day shall there be One LORD and his name ONE." Read, also Revelation 19:11-17. These prophecies are pertaining to November 2, 1930 , thats the day God revealed Himself and his Glory to the world.
Research these things sons and daugther of Zion, even you who have been told you are not. Keep me posted on your path to discovery.
May God grant you his wisdom and overstanding.

onelove823,
Ras Moses here. I and I is a Rastaman. To answer the I's question, Rastafari is not a religion but a way of life. Rastafari doesn't yield any set of organized beliefs, one's Rastafari experience is all up to them and JAH. Some basic principles are wearing one's hair in locks, sacramental smoking of herb, and studying the Ible. Of course, these principles are not mandatory. Your life, or "livity" on Earth and how you fulfill it is all up to you to meditate about and pray to JAH about. Rastas typically seek the teachings of his Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I as JAH, or God. We follow the teachings of Marcus Garvey as well. Our beginnings of Rastafari in the 20th century were somewhat reserved for blacks only, but this changed with the arrival of Bob Marley, who is actually only half-black. Nevertheless, he always considered himself African, as do I and I, despite the fact I and I am white. We believe in repatriation to Ethiopia, the homeland of ALL races and colors. Of course, I and I cannot explain Rastafari in a mere paragraph, but this was the best that Iman could do.
Always standing firm, Ras Moses

Figured I would just post here. . . I'm new so bare with me
I'm not sure if I can truly call myself Rasta or not. I follow so many ways of it, but some I just can't agree with in my ideals. I regard HIM as the highest, but certain things like a diet, homosexuality, etc. I just can't do it. Im sorry if this is confusing, I am just struggling to put whats in my head down. I don't smoke (I know thats not a big deal), I don't dread (I know its not a big deal), but I am kinda lost. Everyone asks me if I am rasta, and I just reply I don't know. I just truly don't. My trouble with saying yes or no is that I don't want to be a hypocrite. I respect so much what rasta stands for, and its views, but i don't want to ruin what everyone works so hard to make (if that makes sense). A lot of the questions come about, because of my image. Long hair, often wear the colors (yes i know what they stand for, which is why if fly them), listen to reggae, my general outlook on life is that of rasta. If you notice my name, I put it because i will always fight and stand for my rights and beliefs. I know there is room for me. Im not going to put my race, because it's irrelevant. Just a little lost. If someone could help me out, I would deeply appreciate it.
Bless all Each one, teach one

If you regard His Majesty as the Highest then why so much trouble with the Livity? I and I don't hold the Livity because it is easy, I and I hold it because it is right. His Majesty shows I and I the way and I and I trod it. I and I could do no different. I can see that you are still not confident in the Iself, and that is the first step to knowing the Most High. Know the Iself and forward in Righteousness and all else will follow. And never forget the words of Marcus Garvey when he said "read, read, read!"
Blessed love.
