i'm trying to find out what i can about whether cremation is 'allowed' in the rastafarian faith? i had a stillborn baby for a rastafarian and the baby was cremated-the father took the ashes from me and scattered them without my knowledge saying it had to be done within nine weeks of death according to his faith. . . i would like to know if this is true or if he did it out of spite-i suspect the latter-he still wants a relationship with me but i need to know the truth before i can begin to think about forgiving him-i would be grateful for any information concerning this. . . thanks

There isn't any Rasta penalty on cremation, even tho a Rasta would prefer feeding the earth, there is no rule that says you must scatter the ashes within 9 weeks of the death of someone.

First of all sorry to hear about your "stillborn".

What confuses me though is your words : "i had a stillborn baby for a rastafarian...."

So, you did it for him ? What about you ? Where were you in all that ? That does not sound right to I. Sorry for putting it this way - I know you have been through a lot already but,.....but.....Something is not complete in your story sistren....

About cremating though, - the body is just a vessel. Without "spirit" the rest is useless. Regardless of how you deal with the "rest" the soul/spirit lives on...Without soul the body is nothing.
But, the story of your man and the "nine weeks" does not fit in the RASTA way of life. We have no rules that say one has to do that....

It may fit more in the old, and man-"confused" African traditions but, Rasta has no laws like that. We only follow the LAWS of THE ONE and I have never heard of a law like that - according to I and I way.....

I and I do not have any particular rituals or anything like that around death. It is life I and I are concerned with. That being said, I and I cannot speak for every Rasta. As far as I know, no mansion has any ceremony for funerals or death but perhaps it may be the case that the action was part of this man's personal meditation. If he truly took the ashes out of spite and tried to use RastafarI as a shield for his actions, then the man is no Rasta. Since he did not consult with you over the treatment of the ashes, I can see why you might jump to conclusions and that is fair enough, but be sure to Reason with the man and get a clear picture of the situation before you pass judgment and make decisions.

Blessings and guidance in what must be a troubling time.

From what I know, some Rastas prefer not to be cremated, but this is a decision they can only make for their own body, and never someone else's body.

True that some Rastas would not want their bodies cremated but it is by no means a precept of Rastafari. Personally, I really have no concern for what happens to I body when I pass and I know that is shared with many others. It is life I and I concern I and Iselves with after all, not death.

Blessed love.
