why is it that so many people on this forum talk about skin color like it matters. as a rasta, we know that no matter what color we are we are still children of jah, we know that we are all the same. i myself am a mutt, my heritage is Irish German Italian Haitian and Dominican but just like EVERYONE else i am also an AFRICAN. i never thought that color mattered so much to people, growing up the way i was raised it never mattered and i never thought about it, but it seems to matter to some of you, why? isnt all this talk about color just some Babylonian brainwash? i am relatively new to rasta so maybe im wrong in believing that we are all one, please explain. Thanks and Jah bless

Skin colour and race are complicated issues. Yes we are all children of JAH and are all equal.
However at the centre of RasTafarI is the action for black liberation. If you live in the west, then you live under a white supremacist system, though you may not realise. You will be living under corrupted white-created concepts, symbols and value systems - Babylon. Black people have a right to self-determination rather than living under this system, and that is a hugely important concept within RasTafarI. RasTafarI is Afrikan centred, and therefore for anyone who acknowledges and embraces their Afrikan ancestry. Race is not important spiritually, but Babylon oppresses black people (in ways over and above the oppression of others that takes place) and that must be fought aggressively.
I hope that made sense to you, I don't think it sounded that clear. Please feel free to ask if you would like me to clarify anything.
Jah bless

One of the main reasons that color is a "big" issue here is because people are always asking the "I am white can I be Rasta ?" question or similar questions like that.... And I totally agree to what JAHwalkwidme said too....Very true. P7

Well maybe you can not read but, I did say that Jahwalkwidme said something I agreed to. So go back and read what him said because you are just repeating it in A VERY BADLY EXPLAINED WAY. And...there is no blackstarliner coming. If you knew something of ISTORY then you would have known that it "sunk" !! In year 1921 !! Now I am gonna reprint what it is I agreed to in Jahwalkwidme words : "However at the centre of RasTafarI is the action for black liberation. If you live in the west, then you live under a white supremacist system, though you may not realise. You will be living under corrupted white-created concepts, symbols and value systems - Babylon. I guess not...? I think you overdid the chalice without overstanding it first Idren...... P7

Yes I real eyes black is the root all came from Africa so all came from blackness, Black from creation back to black through revelation, White supremacy a thing of the devil, black supremacy is Jah works back to the root why fear what you came from? Rastafari is the blackness, black is the light of the world, embrace it, love it, fight for it, but first overstand what it is and what it means because if you don't overstand black you don't overstand Jah Rastafari earths rightfull ruler of life itself One Perfect Black Love

Could you define Black supremacy and White supremacy? I thought I just did! It's really quite simple White supremacy is ego and everything negative in the world a unnatural unfair rule of man over man a western way of thinking BABYLON Black Supremacy is a natural way of living, Living in oneness for and through the teachings and livity of Emperor Haile Selassie I, the true one black god, Jah Rastafari , ZION on all physical, mental and spiritual levels Who feels it knows it Blessed love

Bless up all Jah freedom fighters.
Whilst the I does not want to get too mix up with issue of color I n I would like to say that if "you" need to ask "i am white, can i be a Rasta?" then maybe you dont overstand Ras-Ta-Fari. You must first and fore-most come to the truth that Rasta was/is a black liberation struggle/movement. You may grow your locks, blaze the chalice, listen to roots music, and have a positive mindset but dont think that is the all of Rasta. You are not interlopers but you are guests. You would not enter anothers house and tell them how to conduct their house-hold. The same is here. Be respectful. Be humble. Listen to those who try and teach. Rasta was born out of a s**tuation of oppression and poverty of a kind that I n I as white people have had no experience of. Calling I-self Rasta does not make it so. It is a livety not a label. Remember our God is black and our struggle is not to be accepted as white Rastas but to stand up and fight down the un-just and un-equal system that holds black people down. Pay more attention to the teachings of H. I. M. Learn more of your own I-story. Read and overstand your bible. Just as importantly come to realisation about the roots of Ras-Ta-Fari instead of trying to ignore the bits that make you uncomfortable. Dont be telling black people what you think their history is. The I is not saying there is not room in the movement for white people, after all, what does a movement do? it moves! But only a fool stands by their own mis-understanding and by labelling some Idren on here as racist for being wary of you only shows how much you have yet to learn before you can consider yourself Rasta. From the belief of I it is not possible for a black person to be racist. Racism is about power. As white people I n I have not suffered under a system where I n I have been stolen from our homes, sold, tortured, demonised, de-humanised etc. Racism is about the power to be able to inflict that devil philosophy upon another people. The I may have witnessed some bigotry and separation(apartheid) talk on here but please try and not confuse Ifrican/black identity and the root of Ras-Ta-fari as racism towards white people. The greatest love and respect to all.

I have to agree with the sentiment, it's not about skin colour. Selassie I, stated the obvious; 'Until the colour of a man's skins has no significance to the colour of his eye, then peace will always be an illusion to be pursued and never attained.' Indeed one of the saddest things is that in this world that we live in, it's far easier to hate than it is to Love (your brother or sister)
The issue of colour and culture has been a divisive tactic that has been used by the system (Babylonians) to divide and conquer. Indeed the slave owner (Lynch) prepared a booklet where he documented the different ways to turn brother against brother and sisters against their own based on skin tone etc. But that is only the half, one should also look at Religion, Party Politics, and other institutions that are taken for granted today, but their origins and purpose is to manifest negativity and hatred and to stifle consciousness and One Love. Soon people will wake up to the fact, that the livity pon earth which we know as life is just that, a passing experience that should be fully enjoyed for what it it is, It is not and was never meant to be the hellish prison experience which we are living in right now. But that is how the system has developed a material experience based upon injustice and inequality. So it's not about skin colour per se, that is just one of the processes within the function of life, which we have to realise is put there by them, to mask the real purpose of why we are here.
A One Love We a deal with still.

If any quotes are to be posted then let I and I post those quotes in a "full context". For, HIM does indeed go further to say ( IN THAT VERY SAME SPEECH) :
"Until all Africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; Until that day, the African continent will not know peace."
Well, my friend, that day has not yet come....
Why ?
I am sure that if you are capable to see the reason ? Then there is no need to ask "why color???"
It is obvious....

Greetings.
A lot of people do use H.I.M speech or extract of it without including the whole context.
The speech was dealing with eu rope eans and the damage they were causing in Ifica.
One Blessed Love.
