Hello my bredren and sistren.   I am a new and learning rasta coming here to seek answers to my ever growing questions.   Ini a youth living in the midst of babylons ways.    The color of mi skin be white, but ini know that jah will still always be there.   It saddens me to see me bredren ad sistren on this forum arguing over whether or not whites can be rastas.    Ini understand that rasta was originally a black movement and  ini are humbled to be a part of dis movement.   ini listen to reggae music because me love the vibes and positive messages that sends.   like i say i come here seeking knowledge for my questions.   I consider rasta to be a faith and not a religion.   Oh yeah i almost forgot i get to see mi favorite reggae band Steel Pulse play live in a few days so ini excited haha

Anyway mi questions are

What is the rasta view on hunting game? (Animals)  Ini like to hunt animals.   Me never waste the meat, we always make sure we eat whatever we kill, but what is the ras way of looking at hunting?

Mi other question, was about being white and rasta, but me already looked around the forum and saw that in fact a white mon can be a rasta. . . and like i said I am so humbled to be a part of dis.

Let me tell you how i came to learn of rasta.

mi family and i originally planned a vacation to turks and caicos islands, but it was hit with a big hurricane, so me family replanned the trip to Jamacia, where ini fell in love with reggae music, and learned of the ways of rasta. . . so i think of that hurricane as saving me from babylons ways.

I try to live my life as rasta as I can, I dont smoke the herb though as I dont have a need to because Ini can achieve a higher being without it, however I somewhat understand the purpose of it in the rasta faith.

anyway i look forward to a response

jah bless

It is nice to see that you accept RASTA as a "black movement" but have you overstood what that really means ? Just asking...
I, myself would say NO. Why ? Because, at the same time, you describe it as being a "faith" - LOL. Rasta is a way of life - not no religion, not no faith, not no any other "thing" - seen ?
You haffi KNOW and not believe ! To "believe" means , you have doubts. I and I have no doubts - seen ?

Now to your hunting thing - are you starving so much that you have to hunt for your food ? Now do not tell me that you can buy it in the stores - that is not my question...
Do you really need meat to live ? That is my question...

If you are living in  place where there is nothing else - well then I am sure that JAH would have a "little" offense but, will overlook it. But, if there is enough in abundance  then why kill some helpless animals that can not even defend themselves ? That is a a sign of cowardliness for I. Please do not be offended but, I am just answering to your questions based on what I KNOW. I am not trying to "put you down". Seen ?

I used to fish too - LONG, LONG, LONG TIME AGO - and I really liked it back then but,....

Thank you mista prophet.

I suppose when Ini said faith I did indeed mean a "Way of life".   I see what you are saying fully.  As for the hunting, no I am not living in a place where there is nothing else, but hunting and fishing is something that me and my father are able to share a bond with.   As I said we do not kill animals for the mere joy of it, as I am into animal rights.   No meat goes to waste and that is what ini think is the main ting here.  No i do not need the meat to live to answer your question.

Also, after re reading your post about the black movement and the faith vs religion vs way of life, i fully overstand what you are saying and now see my error in writing "faith" as opposed to way of life, as in my post I was using the term faith inappropriately.

I would like to thank you for your enlightening post.   It brings much wisdom to i.   I KNOW and not believe.

Thank you also for your kind response, it is nice to see you doing the works of jah jah and being so kind to i.

jah bless, and i look forward to learning more from everyone.

You seeking JAH guidance? Why not try one of the commandments? Thou shalt not kill. It seems your livity is more with your family than with the almighty. The word faith or 'way of life' is not important in this sense.

One question, what do you mean by "Ini like to hunt animals" ? Do you take pleasure or satisfaction from terrorising and /or killing? I'm not suggesting that you do, nor do I wish to claim undeserved moral superiority but..... the statement you made seems somewhat dubious...

Greetings brother

Putting aside the hunting thing, which I think you will overstand with time...

As a white Rasta, the biggest question I think you need to ask yourself is to what degree you are Livicated to the liberation of black people everywhere, what lengths will you go to.  Do you overstand how the system is oppressing everyone, but particularly Afrikans.  Do you overstand why Afrikan countries are in the 'state' they are in?  Are you willing to disown or at least thoroughly condemn your own country?  Are you ready for the truth,  basically!

Let I and I know.

I guess I again should have taken more time to write out what I wanted to say. . .

I dont take any joy at all in hunting animals. . . I take joy in the hunting experience and the time that it gives me to bond with my father.    I am in no way experiencing any joy in harming animals, and like I said we dont just shoot and walk away, we eat the things we hunt, and or give the birds to friends who use them as meals as well.

@JAHwalkwidme

I would say that I am ready for the truth!  I dont have any pride in what country I am from, I have pride in being a member of the human race.    I do overtstand how the system is oppressing everyone, but I do think I need to learn more about the actual movement it self, how it started, why it started etc.

Some people just love the taste of blood. I don't know, maybe next time you can ask your father to only take the binoculars and instead watch the animals bond with their family?

It doesn't matter, you're still doing something that supports the killing. You and your father can certainly do other activities as well.

But I am presuming you enjoy eating, chicken, beef, fish and the like, correct?  All rasta mon are not vegetarians!

Eating chicken, beef and such directly supports the killing of animals, as these animals are raised to be killed and thats it.

What about tribes in africa that hunt for their food?  Is that wrong as well?

Unless you tell me that all rasta man are vegetarians, then what you are saying makes no sense

People who eat meat have blood on their hands, there is no denying. The slave master had to keep his subjects alive, that don't mean he and those who gained from slavery don't have blood on their hands. Do you think you can wash it off?

From what I over carnivores have short intestines while herbivores got longer intestines. There's supposed to be some argument about teeth too that would support some kind of mixed diet. Personaly though I have too much respect for animals to be able to eat them.

Human teeth are set out in a way which allows InI to eat meat if necessary. If eating meat is necessary to live, humans are able to do so. However if there is plenty of food, why kill an animal?
