Curious to know why you feel to exclude 'Bashment' singers
remember SOCIAL COMMENTRY is the heart of culture and freedom of speach a must.

Queen Omega (newish artist)
Empress Rashida (mash up creation)

The I-Threes, the seminal female singers of the Wailers that are still with the band to this day.

Marcia Griffiths is indeed IN the I-Threes but her solo stuff is good too. On the "Live In Jamaica" Wailers cd, she performs four of her own songs with the rest of the Wailers taking care of the music. (Gary 'Nesta' Pines sings the rest of the songs and has been with the Wailers for the last 6 or 7 years...if you've forgotten of the Wailers by now...they yearn to be re-discovered. http:// http://www.wailers.com   <--- check out the 'Wailers Radio' ... this has those Marcia songs from Live In Jamaica along with two instrumentals and several songs with Gary all free of charge, of course)

If you're visiting that site...make sure you're opening it with Internet Explorer.

One love

The Live Wailer's CD is fantastic and a great purchase -- as Positive-V states above.

Tanya Stephens is in my head these days.  As a matter of fact, I just read a great article in "The Beat" Magazine (vol 23, No 4, 2004)

The cover is about female Dancehall 2004 and they have dedicated a 1-2 page article to each of the following: Sasha, Ms. Thing, Patra, Tanya Stephens and Lady Saw.

Here is a quote I love from Tanya Stephens: "I think the only problem that I have with being female is that I'm not taken as seriously as a male artist, . . . A man could say any likkle mediocre thing and people regard him as the greatest artist ever.  A woman could say the deepest, most-aware stuff and just be given half the regard that the male artist has for his mediocrity.  And that bothers me.  Outside of that, being a female has been easy . . . . ."

Great articles--Love "The Beat" mag.  Great music info but also each issue begins with a one page column called "King of Kings" where the words of his Majesty are brought forth.  Very Nice!  http://www.getthebeat.com/

The whole purpose of this post was to lists those female artists that 'time forgot' or that are not listened to anymore. My intention was not to annoy anybody or stop you listening to bashment but to highlight these female artist that have contributed to reggae scene (before bashment) that hopefully will again inspire the new younger generations again with their social commentaries on life.

Any way there are lots of bashment posts etc...this one is for the women that time forgot.  [smiley=grin.gif] [smiley=grin.gif]

Boom Song by Sista Cha'Maine.  She sounds like a younger version of Marcia Griffiths, but I prefer her duet with Pam Hall on My Funny Valentine. [smiley=rolleyes.gif]

Tactix, 'Champagne and Wine' is sung by Louchie Lou and Michie One.
My favourite female reggae singer has to be Fiona, she's a really underrated artist, both her albums,  'Fiona's moment' and 'Wanna make love' are packed with good tunes. Another good aritst in a similar style, Nadine Sutherland, from the classic 'Action', and 'Babyface' she's still turning out good music up till now

Do you guys know of a female artist with a song called "Turn the music up" ?? I think that's the name of the song and I'm not exactly sure if she'd be classified as reggae but she had that same type vibe that Sean Paul has in her music. I liked her song when I saw the video but I cant remember what her name is...It started with an R - something like Rhanima? Or something like that...Anyone?
