What is a peaked tam?

I am crocheting a hat for my 14ds (darling son). It's kind of rustic- I haven't crocheted in a few years and I put a star in the middle.
I wish I knew patterns for crochet and especially knitting. Knitting I just know the one stitch.

Anyone else???

Bless up.

Irie Natty,

A peaked tam is one of those roundy floppy hats that are handy for keepin the dreads out of the way,and with a peak on the front basically...think I'll just have to experiment,no joy anywhere unless Iman buy a pattern,No thanks..

Ah- the peak is like a bill in the front?
Does there need to be a stiffener in it?

Tam I know. The peak part was confusing me.
I was picturing a pointy "skater" Dr. Seussish kind of thing.

No dreads here. Would scare my poor husband.

SO knitting is just the two stitches?

I've made up so many things in crochet. I don't know what a pattern would do to me.
It might be good for me to learn some discipline in it though.

Finished the boy's cap, finished one for me, starting another.

Husband wants one now- in his favorite (American) football team's colors.

Bless up.

 Bless up,

yes, natty, there are only two stitches in knitting, knit and purl..knit is the first stitch you learn in which you place the needle through the thread upwards, purl, you place the needle downwards.. all patterns are a combination of the two.
now crotchet, i havent got a clue past casting off, although i was taught as a child. would love to be able to remember how, but its a dying art and unless someone shows me, i dont think i will ever figure it out. kingman has had plenty of laughs at my frustration, so at least someone is enjoying themselves...but i was desperate to make my boys some caps.

oh, yes, you need to stiffen the peak in a tam... my friend uses the plastic packaging from toy boxes and such.
