Reggae Artists Outside of Jamaica
« on: January 28, 2007, 10:33:51 PM »

Greetings,

I would like to take some time to discuss and shed light on crucial reggae outside of Jamaica thats been bubbling for a long time yet  still seems to get less respect then those on the island.

I'll start by naming some artists, and from there, idrens can post what they think of them, or any other artists we should not forget about:

Jah Sun, (out of California,) Madi Simmons, (California,) Nasio Fontaine, (Dominica,) Reggae Angels, (California,) Journalist Bandoo, (Massachusetts,) Highah Seekah, (Florida,) Kana, (Georgia,) Midnite (Virgin Islands,) Ras Attitude, (Virgin Islands,) Collie Buddz, (Bermuda.)

Is anyone familiar with any of these artists? What are some others we shoudn't forget?

Thoughts?

Here in England, not much of a reggae scene really, I mean there are still people here making reggae records but not much roots. It's either dancehall that doesn't really resemble reggae as I know it or its dub, some of which is pretty good.

Not much reggae going on here though unless I'm missing something, music scene here is pretty dull now: all the popular stuff of all genres I hate because it so completely echos the lifestyle of someone chained to the system - its all about selling records and not the feeling and message of the music. Pretty depressing really!

Too many songs about getting drunk and frisky on the weekends in the charts, think the musicians of this day need to open their minds a bit, you know?

Might this include African reggae as well? For those who may not be familiar, you should check out Tiken Jah Fakoly.  He's from the Ivory Coast in Africa.  Most of his songs are sung in French, of which I do not understand a word, I'm sorry to say.  But the music and vibe is amazing.

Greetings all, I've just put the newest Macca B tune on our radiostation, if you're interested...it was sent to
me by Sweet T (who produced it) and it's called Good Vibes....there's still good reggae to be found, you just have to know where to look!  ;)

Bless My beloved sister
Sorry, the right address is:
www.myspace.com/RasAdamMilitant
It is a conscious & righteous reggae/dancehall vibe.
Soon there will be some strictly reggae roots.
Give thanks for your interest!

May The Almighty One forIver be praised.
