Strangest definition I have ever seen...
« on: March 21, 2009, 02:06:32 PM »

In my school lesson today we were given out Psychology text books, one of the chapters was on how people consider others to be 'Abnormal' because of the way they dress/look, there was then a picture of a Rasta, saying that they are considered strange by others because of their appearance, but to other Rasta's they are perfectly normal.

However, it then went on to give a brief summery of what a Rasta is, it said:

"Glen (who was the Rasta in the picture) belongs to a Rastafarian. A mystical Jamaican cult, where the members of which believe they are God-like. Glen has a straggly goatee beard and a type of turban."

The textbooks don't have to be old to be full of misinformation.
I took a sociology course in the last year, new text and all and it wasn't much better.
To make matters worse if bring any information to the class other
than what the teacher fed us you got reprimanded and then flunked if you persist.
Not What I call a learning environment.

My son's history book refers to Moses receiving the word of YHWH as a perceived event and goes on later to refer to Mohammed as actually having received the Koran from Allah.

Most descriptions of not mainstream are extremely offensive.

I especially notice the part where  the Ras' can only grow a scraggly goatee.

Poor Ras'.
Can't even grow a real beard.

And he wears a turban?

If he wore a tam that would over-humanize him, eh?

That would be the least I would mention, IT'S NOT A TURBAN IT'S A TAM.

Bless up.

that so called definition just sounds like an ignorant stereotype of what people think rasta is. dem all think its just Jamaican thing, this definition did not mention Selassie or Ethiopian. its a very bad definition.

true alot of people in modern society (baldheads) think rasta is abnormal which frustrates i.
