Tattoos
« on: May 25, 2009, 03:11:58 PM »

Hi folks.  I'm getting tattoos done eventually.  I know that Rastas don't really agree with tattooing but what is your opinion on none Rastas getting Rasta images tattooed? Not sure what it'll be eventually, but it won't be huge. It will be big enough to have plenty of detail though.  It'll probs be a montage of Reggae artists against the Rasta flag in the background.  What you guys think? 8)

I have read convincing scholarship the the Biblical prohibition against tattoos is against tattoos in memory of the dead.

Hope that helps.

I have a couple tattoos myself
The ones I have have meaning for me.
One is for a child I miscarried.
I find it comforting as do others who have tattoos for lost loved ones
Some people get tats just as art. I assume that there is more meaning
behind the one you are considering
My big advice is that since a tat is difficult to remove, make sure
what you pick is something you can live with for the rest of your life.
Since there is a good chance you will.
It does sound like you are putting a decent amount of thought into
the process.
Remember, at the end of the day, the opinion that matters most is
your own when it comes to choices you make for yourself.
After all you are the one living with those choices.

The body dies- which is why scarification of a living body is forbidden in this instance.

I, too, got a tattoo in memory of a dead friend (which is not the same as a lost child, but in this case I believed it was the same soul).

My comment was just regarding what the Bible says.
I wouldn't do it now.

you asked about non-rasta people geting rasta image tattoos, doesn't sound to good to me. but iman overstand you are a big fun of reggae, enough to to get a tattoo for it. i know Kymani Marley one of Bobs sons has a tattoo of his father, but that was obviously in respect for his father as a legend and dead relative.

HI, thanks for replies and opinions.  I'm getting the Rasta image tattoo done out of respect for the Rasta faith and the strength in their belief, and as a fan of reggae artists also.  I myself am a Buddhist and will have a large buddha image tattooed on my back, as well as mantras on my arms and words of wisdom from the likes of Bob Marley and the Dalai Lama.  I will eventually have pretty much full body coverage apart from my hands, feet, head, face and neck and my genitalia, and will there will be a variety of tasteful images, none of your tacky so called Tribal tattoos.  So long as funds allow that is.
 Thanks, peace and love.
