I don't know so I didn't vote.

I suppose no becuase if you see Selassie as Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Root of David etc. then you would be contrary to Catholicism.

By the way I am guessing you mean Roman Catholic and not Orthodox.

Most definatly not. To Rasta, Catholicism is a very evil force in this world.

How can you be Catholic and Rasta when so much of Catholotism is based around the pope and Rasta does not believe in one leader except Haille Salassie

Eastern Orthodox and Rasta: Yes.
Roman Catholic and Rasta: I'd say no, if I had to choose just off the top of my head. But I honestly, can't fully say. In the end, it's all in where your heart is at.

I'm sure someone is trying to be both [smiley=laugh.gif]''

Then they wouldn't really be a true Rasta or some would say they aren't really catholic or  ???

Why don't we be what God has made us to be?

I think the answer to this question depends on what a person means by "Rasta." Some people have looser definitions of "Rasta" than others.

A Twelve Tribesman, for example, recently told me that he believes that "if you look to the teachings of His Imperial Majesty, and if you associate yourself with Ethiopia, African Liberation and Equal Rights and Justice, then yes you are a Rastafarian. You should not be ashamed of it, and take advantage of the opportunity as an associated Rastafarian to promote the causes of Rastafari, (ie His Imperial Majesty Himself) which are Equal Rights, Justice, and African Liberation, especially in Ethiopia."

Though most Rastas have a very negative view of Catholics and the Catholic Church, a Catholic could nevertheless easily fit this Twelve Tribesman's definition of a Rasta.

Catholics may, for example, regard his imperial majesty as a holy saint of God. As a non-Catholic, Selassie will not be formally canonized by the Catholic Church, but Selassie may be legitimately revered by Catholics as a devout Christian and martyr. Because of this, Catholics may look to Selassie as a Christian exemplar and believe that Selassie is among the glorified saints of heaven who can pray for the rest of humanity here on earth.

Catholics may associate or identify themselves with Ethiopia in any number of ways. Some Catholics are already Ethiopian themselves. Others may view Ethiopia as their biblical homeland (Ethiopia being part of Eden). Others may identify with Ethiopia in solidarity, looking to relieve the oppression and suffering of the Ethiopian people by promoting human rights and social justice there.

Catholics can work for African liberation, as many African Catholics already do. In fact, the Catholic Church would officially encourage this as a legitimate promotion of important Catholic social justice themes, like the "principle of subsidiarity."

Catholics are required by the Catholic Church (whether they actually obey or not) to promote human life, human rights, and social justice.

And so I would say, again, that the answer depends on one's definition of "Rasta." If one's definition is "someone who looks to the teachings of His Imperial Majesty, and who associates him/herself with Ethiopia, African Liberation and Equal Rights and Justice" then any Catholic may be a Rasta.

No, I said it depends on one's definition of a "Rasta." If you have a loose definition, like the Twelve Tribesman brother, then Catholics can. If you have a stricter definition, e.g. requiring ones to consider Selassie to be Jah, then Catholics cannot.

The difficulty is that not all Rastas believe the same.

There are many Rastas who attend Christian churches. I know some. Maybe you need to consider the variety within Rastafari.

Rastafarians have quite varied beliefs. Like I said, the answer depends on how ones define Rastfari.

The definition I gave as an example was from a Rasta of the Twelve Tribes of Israel house. Obviously it is a loose definition. Maybe you like a strict definition. But not all Rastas do.

Not all Catholics are Italians. In fact, the vast majority of Catholics are not. 110 million (1 in 10) or more Catholics are African.

What did I do to make you assume I am a heathen? Is it because I quoted a Twelve Tribesman? Do you think Twelve Tribes Rastas are heathens?
